Zarathustra Must Die, Dorian Alexander
Zarathustra Must Die: the Fictional Memoir of Dorian Alexander is a work of philosophical fiction that traverses several genres as it follows the odyssey of Dorian Alexander, a graduate student grappling with Nietzsche’s concept of “eternal recurrence.” Part fictional memoir, part novel, part philosophical exposition, the work explores the nature of time and its relationship to our existence. Yet, Zarathustra Must Die finds a home not simply in the high art of philosophy, but also in the low art of sex and drugs as Alexander attempts to grasp Nietzsche through the lived experience. Never taking the journey too seriously, however, Alexander’s humor ranges from high-brow wit to pure burlesque. Zarathustra Must Die is a thought-provoking fiction experience that defies easy classification.
Dorian Alexander is the pen name of a writer living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Zarathustra Must Die (2011) is his first work of fiction. He is currently working on Ellie?, a second philosophical novel.
