History & Mission
Producing books that nurture dialogue
Who we are
Founded in 2001 with a generous grant from the Oristaglio Foundation, Etruscan Press is a non-profit cooperative of poets and writers working to produce and promote books that nurture the dialogue among genres, achieve a distinctive voice, and reshape the literary and cultural histories of which we are a part.
What we do
We publish books of poems, novels, short stories, creative non-fiction, criticism, translation, and anthologies. Two of our poetry collections have been National Book Award finalists; one of our titles was chosen as the Poetry Society of America’s First Book Award, and three poems have been chosen for Best American Poetry. Etruscan is proud of support received from the National Endowment for the Arts, Ohio Arts Council, the Wean Foundation, and the Nathalie and James Andrews Foundation, as well as many private contributors.
Etruscan Press educational and community efforts include offering publishing internship and graduate assistant opportunities and providing an educational outreach program to raise literacy awareness among at-risk teenagers.
Where we are
Housed in the offices of the graduate creative writing program of Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and also drawing on the resources of Youngstown State University, Etruscan is distributed nationally by Small Press Distribution and Consortium Book Sales and Distribution.
Our mission
Etruscan publishes books that are timely and timeless. Contesting assumptions about the isolation and irrelevance of literature, we seek to nurture a colloquy of voices: writers and readers engaged in enlivening the discourse between individuals and across communities. We invite you to join us.
